MTB Festival Overnighter (for men too!)
June 27-28. We invite ALL to join us for a Joint IWBP / Boise MTB Festival overnight ride finishing at Bogus just as the festival is beginning.
→ Yes, men are also invited for this one! ←
The Boise Mountain Bike Festival is the region’s premier MTB event, and also one of IWBP’s main sponsors. In past years IWBP has participated with booths, demos, and Q&A’s. This year, we hope you will join us for something a little different — a free all-welcome community overnight ride.
We’ll begin Friday evening, then finish the next morning by by riding right into the festival. The pace will be relaxed, with an emphasis on fun for new and experienced bikepackers alike.
If you are interested in ways to make the route shorter, just ask!
Attending the Festival on Saturday is optional, but we hope you will stick around to take advantage of this great event. Get more information or sign up here.

If you don’t have all the gear you need, please use our free community Gear Library. Read more about that here:
When
Start: Friday June 27. Meet up at 6 PM, pack up, and roll out by 6:30 PM.
End: Saturday June 28 around 10-11 AM
Where
We will meet and begin the ride at the Bogus Basin Resort main parking lot. We have permission to leave cars here overnight.
Route Overview
This ride is a 2 day / 1 night loop that starts and ends at Bogus.
Total route: Approximately 26 miles with 3800 feet of climbing. If you are interested in ways to make the route shorter, just ask!
Terrain: 70% singletrack, 30% double-track / gravel, and 0% pavement.
Recommended bike and tires: We recommend mountain bikes. Experienced bikepackers who know the area and understand “underbiking” could pull it off on a gravel bike.
Route Links
Difficulty *
Technical scale 5/10. Ample green-to-blue level singletrack. We will ride at a relaxed party pace, and encourage walking when needed.
Physical demand 3/10. The route is relatively short, but includes moderate climbs both days.
Resupply and Logistics 2/10. Route is a loop. No resupply options. Short enough to require relatively little prep or food. Water for filtering will be available in several spots. Stay with the group unless you’re very confident navigating alone.
Day 1
We’ll party-pace ride through the upper Eastside, Sinker Creek, and Stack Rock areas, then we’ll head into the Dry Creek Headwaters area for camp.
Camp
In true bikepacking style, we’ll camp somewhere along the way at a spot we all like. Ponderosa Pine Overlook is a great option. If we’re feeling good and have enough daylight, we could press on a little further. Camp will be primitive / dispersed, with no potable water, bathroom, or other facilities. Please practice the Leave No Trace Seven Principles. Tents, bivies, or hammocks would all work well for shelter.
Day 2
We will exit Dry Creek Headwaters, climb Ridge Road toward Bogus, then take Around the Mountain — one of the area’s best cross-country biking trails. Then we’ll finish by triumphantly descending into the Festival!
Food and Resupply
No resupply, so carry everything you need. Start having eaten at least a small dinner. Pack the following:
Second dinner or heavy snacks to eat at camp
Camp breakfast for day 2
Plenty of snacks
Water
Recommended carrying capacity of 2-3 liters. Water for filtering will be available in several spots along the way. Filters can be shared, or borrowed from the Gear Library.
Lights
While we do not plan to ride in the dark on this one, always be prepared. In addition to a handlebar or helmet light for riding, a lightweight headlamp can help with setting up camp or cooking.
Important Reminders
If you need more information about IWBP, how the overnight rides work, how to borrow gear, or how to know if you’re ready to come along, start here.
This is a no-drop ride.
Signing the waiver and wearing a helmet are required. Bikepacking can be strenuous and dangerous. You ride at your own risk.
Minors must be accompanied by an adult who signs the waiver for them and is together with and responsible for them at all times.
Cell service will be available for most but not all of this route. Leaders will carry a satellite tracking / messaging device for safety and access to emergency services.
All times listed are estimates, and depend on the group timeliness and pace.
Weather can be unpredictable and doesn’t deter the ride unless extreme or unsafe conditions arise.
As a bonus for those doing the Boise Trails Challenge, we’ll check off a few BTC miles as well!
